We woke up to more low cloud and rain.
We had great breakfast at Waihi Beach airfield. It was a good thing I wasn’t intending to get airborne! The cafĂ© is really nice so we’re looking forward to flying in.
On the way south we stopped at Tauranga to visit Peter and Jeanette (Noel’s uncle and aunt). They very kindly gave us lunch.
They live near Mount Maunganui so we went to see it. I’ve seen it before but Noel hadn’t.
For old time’s sake we visited Tauranga airfield, from where I set out with a friend, Pete, on a Vintage Moth Rally in 2004 during my first visit to NZ.
View of the runway, pretty similar to last time I was there!
After leaving Tauranga we drove through Rotorua to Taupo. We stopped there and had a soak in the Hot Pools.
Yet again we couldn’t see the volcanoes to the south of Taupo.
This is the view of a hill near to Taupo on our drive to Napier.
