We woke about 6:30am to the sound of the generator turning on followed by bilge pumping and then the engine started (Noel says a 350hp Gardner! 🙄 ).
Here’s a log of the trip (didn’t log the very start as I was below decks then).
This was the view at 7:30am. No rain (or not much) and slightly warmer.
Noel with hand warmers. 🙂
There was low cloud but much more promise of better weather than yesterday.
This bird surfed the air from port to starboard side as we motored along.
Two waterfalls with low cloud.
Here’s a video of the scene.
We stopped here so John could show someone a Rimu tree. Apparently all the trees and bushes found in Doubtful Sound can be found on this football pitch-sized island.
Back at the start of the cruise at Deep Cove.
Our boat.
At West Arm, Lake Manapouri waiting for our boat to Pearl Harbour.
The Manapouri Hydroelectric Power Station.
Views on Lake Manapouri. There had been snow on the hill-tops overnight.
The volcano I mentioned yesterday with only its inner core remaining.
A close-up.
The volcano from another angle.
After reaching Pearl Harbour we caught the Tracknet bus to Te Anau. Then we drove to Te Anau Downs to see what was there – here’s the view.
Since we couldn’t find a café for lunch we drove back to the town centre and found some lunch there. Here’s Noel chatting to a local bird. 🙂
