We stayed at the hotel beside the airfield but there was no chance of any gliding happening as the cloud was too low and it was raining.

We mostly were inside reading/working although we went out for a quick bite to a local café/gift shop. We got chatting to the shop assistant who was very nice. She mentioned that her daughter had got married at the end of February and Gavin Wills (GlideOmarma) had flown aerobatics in his glider overhead for it.

Then we went across the road to an antiques shop / second-hand bookshop. I found a book on Jackie Moggridge, a female member of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) during WW2! She delivered Carolyn Grace’s Spitfire to 485 NZ Sqn, which is the squadron that Noel’s Dad, Max, flew with.

As we were getting in the car the shop assistant we had chatted to rushed out and told us about a newspaper leaflet on the Wanaka airshow in case we wanted to get the newspaper.
