What a memorable day!
Jan and Jerry Chisum very kindly invited Noel and me to fly with them from Hastings to Waipukurau where they were going to be flying lots of children for a Cancer Support day.
The weather was sunny and the scenery was beautiful. Outbound, I flew with Jan in the Minicab while Noel was in the Gipsy Moth with Jerry.
I have mentioned in a previous post the importance of the Gipsy Moth to Jan but it’s worth repeating the video link here.

Approaching Lake Poukawa.
Gipsy Moth on Final at Waipukurau.
During the day we helped swing the prop for the Gipsy Moth. Father Christmas arrived to give presents to the children and they had rides on a vintage fire engine and could also operate a small digger.
We had a good chat with the CFI at the club about flying Tiger Moths and may have lessons soon.
On the way back Jan and I were in the Gipsy Moth and Noel and Jerry were in the Minicab. This was a slightly longer flight as we flew over a couple of places of interest.
It was a fantastic flight!

Hasting’s low-flying area with Roy’s Hill to the right of the river.
Blueberries are being grown under the white sheets. A forced landing after take-off could make a nice squash!
With Jan and Jerry. How good was that?!!!! 🙂
After a ginger beer we got back in the plane, flew a circuit and landed with minimal taxying to park! Note the wings are folded back.
After the planes were put to bed we had a very enjoyable drink or two.
Brilliant day!
